The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in San Francisco. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and took the city's name, before changing its geographic moniker to Golden State in 1971.
The Warriors have won seven NBA championships, with their first in 1947 and their most recent in 2022. Golden State's six NBA championships are the third most in NBA history, behind only the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors have reached 12 NBA Finals, appearing in at least one Finals in every decade since the 1940s.
The team's colors are royal blue and California gold. The Warriors have developed rivalries with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Houston Rockets, among others.
